  1. The Boeing 704 is one of the more interesting advanced patrol/ASW landplane designs conceived for the US Navy in the 1950s because the OS-128 specification around which it was designed spelt out requirements for a large ASW aircraft designed for minelaying. The Model 704 design with all-jet propulsion shown in the Boeing artwork was initially called the Model 450-150-30 despite differing in having a side-by-side cockpit for some of the crewmembers (e.g. pilot). Another Model 704 design investigated by Boeing (originally Model 450-148-30) had two inboard turboprops and two outboard turbojets.

If the Boeing 704 or any other minelaying landplane submitted for the OS-128 specification had been selected for full-scale development and built, it would have been somewhat longer-lived than the Martin P6M Seamaster in its developmental and operational life because the end of the 1950s saw the P6M program canceled at the early production stage due to the deployment of ballistic missile submarines and a tight US Navy budget.
