Liberators!

  1. Not criticism, just corrections/additions.
“Lettie Jo” wasn’t a B-24D, though it’s easy to understand why you would think so. “LJ” was an LB-30 (impressed Liberator II from a British contract) RAF serial AL632. After 6BG service it returned to Consolidated who converted it to a transport and added it to their airline Consairway. Final fate unknown but since their is no crash record, probably salvaged postwar.
“Night Mission” was B-24D-80 42-40891. It remained in the Canal Zone until postwar and assigned to the RFC in early 1946 for salvage. The nose art was cut off and is with the CAF at Midland, TX.
Sure Pop was another D-80, 42-41073 of the 43rd BG 65th BS, originally named “Kentucky Virgin” “but not for long”. It flew with the unit from September 1943 to 7July1944 and was salvaged that August.
