According to the former Boeing photographer who took this in (he thinks) 1959, it was snapped from the boom operator’s station of a KC-135 Stratotanker. Makes sense to me, because I sure can’t figure out how else you get a head-on shot of an airliner doing a few hundred knots (and live to tell about it).
